Data protection and your privacy

Journalists need access to personal information in order to tell stories.

I will ask for your full name, age, date of birth, address, telephone number, email and/or social media contact details.

​

You will also be asked for personal information relating to your story, which may include medical details if it's a health story, dates and times of when things happened, and other information. A shorthand note will be taken of your conversation and you may be asked for your consent for the interview to be recorded. You will also be asked to provide photographs, ether via email, WhatsApp or through social media. During the process of pitching your story to a magazine or newspaper, some of this information will be shared with commissioning editors.

However, I WILL NOT share any of your contact details with any other organisation without your specific consent.

Information given to me is stored electronically (password protected) and within a journalist's notebook, which is standard practice for the industry. Recordings are also stored behind password protection.

Depending on the nature of your story, I may also ask you to sign an exclusivity agreement, or provide written consent for details and/or photographs of children under 16 to be included.
